About Zane

Indigenous Visual Artist and Performer Zane Saunders descendant of Butchulla, Gunggari and Jarrowia People’s of Southern Queensland, lives in Kuranda North Queensland, Australia.

Culture and aboriginal spirituality is the basis and inspiration of his artistic practice. Zane crafts one-off performances embedded in story and location. Artist performs a ritualistically incorporeal language, drawing on his esoteric cultural roots, questioning and rivalling religious and world influences.

Zane’s motivation is to help improve the quality of life for aboriginal people.

His work can be placed in many diverse settings and contexts. Transforming formal spaces into invigorating performance settings, employing all manner of mediums and media in realising visually stunning and critically challenging work.

Zane’s visual art is in many collections, including the National Gallery of Australia. 2011 a career highlight Zane participated in an Australia Council artist in residence at Location One in New York.

Currently, Zane continues his creative development of new conceptual works including “Spirit” a project concept produced whilst attending the Signature Works Innovation Lab, an Australia Council for the Arts initiative.
